Leap day
You sat across from Mia at your favorite restaurant. Mia’s slender fingers wrapped around a delicate crystal glass, sparkling with the amber-colored cocktail within, holding it for a toast.
Her eyes stared distantly, lost in a kaleidoscope of drinks, as she prepared for the familiar warmth of the drink kissed her lips, momentarily transporting her back to a moonlit seaside, where laughter and love mingled with salty air; and for that fleeting moment, she couldn't help but smile and savor the bittersweet sweetness of a cherished past.
Finally, she settled on a simple, “Cheers.”
You returned the “cheers,” carefully clinked your glass against hers. Whale you took a small sip, she knocked her entire cocktail back in a few large swallows.
“Mumm, tassy,” she remarked.
The waiter arrived. "Good evening, folks. Are you ready to place your order?" the waiter asked
Mia, spoke up first, her words slightly slurred. "Yes, i'll havve the shicken parmesan, pleeeze. Ann the vegetable ann fruit, pleeeze ann coud yoo alsso brin' me a glazz uhf wine, pleeeze??”
Then her date spoke, “actually, bring us a bottle. I’ll have the steak, medium rare, the loaded sweet potato and corn.
The waiter nodded, taking note of their requests. As the waiter left to put their order in, you leaned in and whispered to Mia, "I think you might be a little drunk.”
Mia giggled and brushed off his concern, “Nooo, im nod. Im juzz inna gooond mood, thass alll”.
Eventually, the waiter brings out their food and drinks. Mia immediately starts to devour her meal.
When the food arrived, you dug into his steak, while Mia slowly ate, drinking wine. ““I'd liyke t' propose,” your girlfriend slurred holding out her empty glass.
You grabbed the wine bottle and refilled her glass, as you said, “Ok, let me fill your glass, and we can toast.”
“Nod a toazz. Propose. Merry me,” she slurred.
Of course you said yes, it was after all leap day.
